Trailer, mission impossible 4- ghost protocol

Here we are again with a sequel some of you maybe heard of already, not some major movie just something we saw once. I believe you could say this if you: option A: aren’t human, option B: been stranded on an unmanned island for the last 20 years, option C: are from another planet option D: all the above. Yes mission impossible 4 comes out near the end of this year. I know not all of them were perfect or realistic, but they definitely fall in the category of popcorn movies. Just there to blow stuff up, make some insane stunts and show us technology that nobody invented yet. The point is I think they are crazily entertaining. So I believe this one will do the same. Watch the trailer and you will understand what I mean.

I know adrenaline is flowing as crazy in your veins, but calm down it’s just a movie. Additionally we will have to wait a bit for this one to come out. But again I think everyone should start getting in shape if we want to keep up with Ethan Hunt. Another major thing, blowing up the Kremlin, nice!!!
So be prepared!!!

Review: X-Men: First Class

Director: Matthew Vaughn

Release date: 2 June 2011

Genre: Comic book action hero

Cast: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Kevin Bacon

Memorable quote:
Erik Lehnsherr:
Tomorrow, mankind will know that mutants exist. They will fear us, and that fear will turn to hatred.

What?
Before the world knew them as Professor X and Magneto their names were Erik Lensherr and Charles Xavier. We see how both mutants discover their powers; Xavier by helping others, and Erik through fury and anger. Long before they were archenemies, they were closest friends teamed up against the biggest thread the world has ever seen, World war 3. The small crack and a disagreement on the future of the mutants, becomes a huge gap between the two friends and signifies the beginning of the eternal war between Magneto and Professor X. Best friends who became the biggest enemies.

Yes?

I couldn’t wait for this movie to come out, I saw every poster, trailer, read every possible spoiler before it came out and when it came oh boy, I didn’t see nothing yet. Even though we know the end, you still don’t know how you will get there and the way is just a masterpiece.
From the very beginning you see that Magneto and the professor stand in the middle of everything. You have additional characters but they all fall in the background. Even though others might see this as a negative thing I believe it’s exactly the beauty of the whole movie.

You can see magneto and Xavier shine, see how their characters are being formed, and how the future of X-men is being written. Those characters where definitely the backbone of this great movie.

Then we have the story, which was just great, taking history and rapping all of it around the mutants is just brilliant. The villain: every comic book hero must have a villain, we couldn’t ask for a better bad guy. He presented this evil in such a beautiful way. Last but not least we get the amazing special effects, especially our friend magneto; the effects really showed us the power behind his mutation. I can go on here but this goes then in to spoilers, sorry.

No?
Difficult, I liked it, so finding something negative is difficult. Let’s say that besides that the other mutants fell in the background. I wasn’t sure about the casting for all of them. I think mystique wasn’t that good and this angel, spitting fly really sucked. That’s it.

Well?
I loved this one, I’m quite sad that it ended already; I would love it to continue. But hey there are others already in production, so don’t cry. Another amazing thing was the small but so important glimpse of Wolverine, I just couldn’t help it, it was amazing. I never put a quote at the end but I just loved this.

Erik Lehnsherr: Excuse me, I'm Erik Lehnsherr.
Professor Charles Xavier: Charles Xavier.
Logan, (wolverine): Go fuck yourself!!

Because of all the above I grade this one…

Trailer, Killer Elite

I just had a talk with someone on Saturday about Jason Statham in the Mechanic, I actually like the movie, fun to watch, etc. (if you want you can read the review somewhere on the site!) So it was really awesome to find a new project with his name on it. Killer elite brings together some hardcore actors, we got Jason Statham, legendary Robert de Niro and Clive Owen. I’m a big fan of those three when they aren’t in the same movie, so this will be quite exciting to watch. The trailer shows as some raw action scenes and big explosions, exactly what is needed from a good action movie.

“When his mentor (Robert De Niro) is taken captive, a retired member of Britain's Elite Special Air Service (Jason Statham) is forced into action. His mission: kill three assassins dispatched by their cunning leader (Clive Owen). “

This really looks like something worth waiting for, I must just say it is a remake, but the trailer says based on a real story, I guess we will have to wait and see. Get ready for rumble!!!

Review: Source Code

Directors: Duncan Jones

Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga

Release Date: 31 March 2011

Genre: science fiction, thriller

Memorable quote:

Colter Stevens: What would you do if you knew you only had one minute to live?
Christina Warren: I'd make those seconds count.

What?

An air force captain wakes up in a traveling train, an unknown person talking to him, and to make this whole situation weirder, he is in the body of a high school history teacher. While trying to make sense of the whole situation, the train explodes after only being 8 minutes in another’s man body. After the explosion he finds himself in a capsule talking to a screen which tells him he is on a secret mission to find the man responsible for the train attack and a future nuclear attack on Chicago.(that’s as closest I can tell you without spoiling something!)

Yes?

The best thing about this movie is the idea, it’s fresh and shining. (Sort of) Even so you see the same situation again and again they pull it off to keep you sharp and interested during the whole movie. You have always something different in each scene, it just doesn't get bored it stays exciting till the end. I can also say that Gyllenhaal is really perfect for this movie, he plays at the beginning this shy uncertain guy, where at the end he becomes this super hero. You see this transformation happening, which is great.

No?

I had a couple of problems here. One I think the effects where lame, seriously nothing special about it. Secondly the bad guy or maybe guys, we have the terrorist and the agent in charge. I think they suck at being a villain (want so see a villain watch die hard 1, Hans Gruber!) And the third and maybe worst thing is the fact that when you make a science fiction movie, it is fiction but based on science rules and axioms written and invented by the writers and those are not upheld throughout the movie and I think this is a big red lamp that future movie makers should take into consideration.

Well…

Besides a couple of negative points this movie was entertaining to watch, but again not enough to watch at the movies. Watch it at home with a nice bucket of popcorn. Because of all the above I grade this one…

Review: true grit

Directors: Ethan Coen, Joel Coen

Stars: Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Hailee Steinfeld

Release Date: 17 February 2011

Genre: western, drama some action

Memorable quote:

Rooster Cogburn: We'll sleep here and follow in the morning.
Mattie Ross: But we promised to bury the poor soul inside!
Rooster Cogburn: Ground's too hard. Them men wanted a decent burial, they should have got themselves killed in summer.

What?

After the father of Mattie Ross gets killed, she decides to take matters in her own hands. It is said that this is a true story, but I must say I didn’t research this fact. So again after her father was killed by a ruthless killer and gangster she decides to start searching for a head hunter and put a price on the head of the killer. Of course dead or alive comes in handy. After finding the right US marshal head hunter pro, she gets on a journey to avenge her father’s death. Of course the Marshal doesn’t like the idea of a 13 year old girl coming along and he needs to play the babysitter!

Yes?

The Cohen brothers do things their own way, you like it or you don’t. I personally must say that I like it. They deliver the story packed with awesome dialogues and beautiful scenery. Like we see in “no country for old men” you need to focus on the right person, sometimes they make you believe that the main actor is not actually the leading character, I believe that this was also the case in true grit. Look at just the little girls she just steels the entire spotlight in every scene she’s in. I loved her. (In a legal way) She was so powerful; she just made the movie work. The story was nice, the characters where nice, she was amazing. The brothers have this strength where they look for all the details and they want everything to be perfect. And I believe they really pulled it off. This movie was really amazing in my eyes. Jeff bridges, Matt damon, Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Brolin these characters just made the movie work.

No?

I think the ending wasn’t as it should be. When I saw this I expected something else, but again maybe this, makes the movie so much a Cohen movie, where things are not as you expect they are going to be. Those movies are not for everyone, it’s easy the world is divided in those who like the Cohen movies and those that hate them; this movie was just not for everyone.

Well…

I liked the movie, especially because of the great acting that we saw here. I watched it and I would recommend people who like the Cohen brothers style also to watch it. So I like no country for old men, so I must say I liked this too. Because of all the above I grade this…

review: no strings attached

director: Todd Phillips

release date: 2 December 2010

genre: romantic comedy

casting: Ashton Kutcher and Natali Portman

memorable quote:

Eli: You know what the best part about my gay dads is?
Adam: What?
Eli: They're never gonna eat out my ex-girlfriends.
Wallace: You and your dad are tunnel buddies, huh?

What?

A guy and a Girl decided to get involved, but not in the regular way, they decide for some ground rules, all the physical and none of the emotional stuff. This special arrangement is better known as friends with benefits. The problem in this situation are the players, both like this arrangement till this unneeded phenomena comes to the surface, feeling is the beginning of the end is such situations.

No?

I start in this section since I have here more to say. I must be fair with this movie, I saw it after someone told me to watch it, and said its really fun and amazing. This is a bad starting point for a movie, high expectations, especially when the movie sucks, and then its way worse. Instead of giving the movie a possible 6 it gets a 4 because of high expectations. The story wasn’t special or interesting. The humor was cheap and predictable. If you see the joke coming up, it’s just not funny. I also believe that the acting of out two main characters lacked chemistry and harmony. Portman just got he Oscar for best actress, I’m sorry for this one she should get something else. Portman just didn’t fit the profile and the comedy, she wasn’t funny.

Yes?

I’m not sure what to write here, maybe the fact that Ashton Kutchers dad in the movie sleep with his ex, seriously that’s all.

Well?

I don’t want just to kill a movie, but I must say it felt like torture, I watched it, and it kept on going without the end in sight. I wouldn’t watch it, so don’t waste your time or money on this one. Because of all the above I grade this one…

Review: the green hornet

Director: Michel Gondry

Stars: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Christoph Waltz

Release Date: 13 January 2011

Genre: action comedy (if you can call this like this)

Memorable quote:

Britt Reid: Kato, I want you to take my hand, and I want you to come with me on this adventure.
Kato: I go with you, but I don't want to touch you.

What?

After the unexpected death of the head of the most powerful newspaper in the city, the unfortunate air of this huge empire is his super spoiled, super childish son. Instead of manning up and taking up his responsibilities, he decides that the best thing to do is to become a super hero with the help of the driver/butler/martial art expert boy. He will stop crime in the city!!

Yes?

I’m not sure what I expected of this movie and why I believed it’s going to be worth watching it, but maybe this is the only good thing at this movie, it made me curious. I wanted to watch this movie. Of course I was disappointed and bored once I did that. Another good thing in this movie where a couple of nice gadgets that I as a grown up child would love to play with, cars, guns and maybe some of the eye candy, but that’s quite it. Oh and Cameron Diaz, was ok, but that’s really it.

No?

Let’s go. The movie was predictable, very childish and not even funny. The story was boring the acting wasn’t good and well the side kick really sucked. Of course this is the first time I ever saw him on screen and his English was just “beautiful”. So I’m not sure what made me watch this disaster. The special effects where not impressive or even near it. No need to continue I guess.

Well…

This is one of those movies where I need to watch it so you wouldn’t. So don’t watch it. It’s not good as a comedy or an action or in any other category. Since I actually like Seth Rogen, I won’t hang him out to the dry for this. Because of all the above I grade this one…

review: Just Go with It

director: Dennis Dugan

release date: 10 February 2011

genre: romantic comedy

casting: Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and Brooklyn Decker

memorable quote: My wife beats me in front of my kids!

What?

Sometimes People need to lie to pick up girls. In our case Danny’s strategy is to tell girls he is married, and that his marriage sucks, he gets beaten up, or whatever. This lie backfires upon meeting this gorgeous girl which he actually likes. Now he has to get out of this lie by using Katherine his assistant as his soon to be divorced wife. The problem is that the lies are just piling up, from a simple situation Danny gets to a vacation with his new girlfriend, his “wife”, “kids” and the German Sheppard! What a mess.

Yes?

I must say I didn’t plan on seeing this movie at first, unfortunately I found myself at the movies without tickets for the actual movie I wanted to see. So without a choice feeling bummed about not seeing what I originally wanted to see, I wander in the theater and sit down. To my big surprise I started smiling and laughing during this movie, and as much it continued I laughed more and more. You totally can see Adam Sandler’s humor here at work and honestly I’m not always a fan, but this time he cracked me up. He totally brought it, even Jennifer Anniston which makes movies like this like a factory, brought it. It wasn’t boring or heavy, and it wasn’t this romantic stupid cheesy movie that you go with your girlfriend cause she wanted. This was some good amusing stuff to see. I had some tears in my eyes from this and those don’t come easily. The story was quite refreshing, and the kids and the Sheppard are a great added value here.

No?

Like in all those movies you can predict the end already from the trailer but this isn’t some thriller where you need to be on guard and suspicion for the whole time. So that’s half so bad. I think the pretty hot young girl, was only there for some eye candy, she was only there for this reason and that’s quite it. I liked it so I won’t give anything else here.

Well?

This movie was funny, especially since I didn’t believe it was going to be. I really liked it and it made my soiree less miserable. If you want some good popcorn home movie watch it, you won’t regret it. It shows really some good chemistry between Sandler and Anniston. Because of alt the above I grade this…

Trailer, super 8

Maybe you heard of him maybe you didn’t. If you didn’t write me a letter and I will personally slap your ass. I’m talking about Mr. Steven Spielberg. He is known as the director and producers of the best movies known to men. ET, saving Private Ryan, Back to the future… this beautiful list can go on and on. But this isn’t a biography of Mr. Spielberg; it’s an introduction for his film Super 8.(Of course if you wan’t the full filmography go to IMDB.com) I’m not sure if you heard of it but believe it or not this is probably going to be another of the big movies expected to come out this summer. Enjoy the trailer for now.

I know we haven’t seen any monsters or aliens in the movie. Don’t you think that this is exactly the exciting part? Can’t wait to see this one, it’s a great summer!!

Trailer, apollo 18

Usually I’m not a big fan of Horror/thriller movies, but maybe ill make an exception for this particular one. There are a couple of things that make we want to see this, one of them is that is based on so called history and facts. This whole background gives you the feeling that this really happened and that the whole thing is true. The trailer shows us all those images from the cameras on board of the spaceship which is for once something else.

I’m not sure this is going to be a good movie but this is definitely something I’m looking out for. Check it out and tell me what you think. Scared already?
