Review: Battle of LA

Director: Jonathan Liebesman

Release date: 11 March 2011

Genre:
action and Science fiction

Casting:
Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez and Bridget Moynahan

Memorable quote:
Sgt. Major: At fourteen forty six pacific standard time, twelve different locations across the globe were breached in what appears to have been a coordinated attack by an unknown enemy. This is a textbook military invasion. We are the last offensive force on the west coast. We cannot lose Los Angeles.

What?
It’s quite simple; we follow this staff sergeant on the edge of retirement when the world gets attacked by aliens. He and his team get a mission to evacuate a couple of civilians still trapped in "enemy territory".

Yes?
There was quite a lot of preparation and propaganda for this movie; this made me curious about the movie. The trailer looked good and packed with action. I liked in the movie the fact that the aliens where attacking not only by air but also land troops, I thought that this is something refreshing. Besides that we had some nice visual effects of the attack itself, the aliens looked a bit dull for my taste.

No?
The movie didn't stand up to my expectations, I wanted some good scary action packed alien movie, and we didn't get any of that. The story wasn't exciting as it should be. What I especially hate is when one small group saves the whole world; they kicked all aliens’ asses by themselves. For my taste this is a bit to easy. And of course we cannot forget the predictability, let the alien win for once, they have better weapons, better ideas and they are stronger, make it original for once!

Well...
This movie wasn't half as good of what I expected, so I didn't like it. Its a waste of time, I could do something more important, like clipping my toe nails. Because of all the above I grade this...

Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Director: Rob Marshall

Producer: Jerry Bruckheimer

Release date: 19 May 2011

Genre: Action, Adventure & Fantasy
Casting: Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane

Memorable quote: (actually you have quite a lot; I just liked this one more)
Jack Sparrow: You know that feeling you get when you're standing in a high place... sudden urge to jump? I don't have it.

What?
We start this part of the journey where we stopped the last time. Famous Jack Sparrow finds himself again without a ship or crew, on the eve of a huge adventure to find the Fountain of Youth. He unexpectedly crosses paths with his so called “ex-girlfriend” who tricks him on her father’s ship, who shockingly is the infamous Captain Blackbeard, which is so conveniently also on the way to find the Fountain of Youth, all this with Jacks professional help. The journey becomes kind of a death race when the Spanish fleet and the English fleet led by Captain Barbossa try to get to the fountain first. All in all this sounds quite nice.

No?
I start with this section because I’m filled with anger and I got a lot of bad stuff to say here. I think the worst thing in a movie is expectations, especially when they are not fulfilled. I’m quite a fan of the POTC franchise so I believed this one will be a nice add-on to the existing parts, but as I saw a couple of days ago, I was wrong. It lacked so many things I don’t even know where to begin. I think the worst thing was the lack of the ‘wow factor “that we have in all the other ones, you just didn’t have it, I sat in the cinema waiting for “it” to happen, but it never came. You didn’t have a whole crew of death living or a captain as Davy Jones, a huge monster or a goddess, nothing. We got a couple of harmless zombies and a bunch of silly mermaids which were so pumped up in the trailer. The last thing, what was this fake indie love story in the middle of all this? Seriously this was pathetic. I actually can go on here, but I have some respect for Jerry Bruckheimer so I’ll stop here.

Yes?
Now to the good stuff. First of all you have to watch it because it’s Jack Sparrow. Everyone who watched the three before can’t withstand this one either, sorry that’s how it is, you are hooked. Jack and Barbossa just deliver this all the way. Their characters shine, especially since everything else falls in the background. The story was ok. The effects where nice but not spectacular, the soundtrack was as always inspiring. The fact is that this movie wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t good enough compared to what it had to be. You have a couple of funny moments (almost exclusively by Jack) which give the movie the well known action – comedy genre. I think that’s quite it, in a nutshell.

Well…
I watched the movie in 3D, big mistake. Don’t do it, don’t watch it in 3d because you are going to spoil the whole movie. That’s it, this is the last time I’m going to spend more money for something worse. I actually hate it for now on. So all in all entertaining, but I’m sorry to say this can wait for the DVD at home or whatever, not a must at the movies. Of course you need to watch it since Jack Sparrow still gives hell of a one man show. Because of all the above I grade this one…

Grade: 6.5 out of 10 (sorry Jack, it’s not personal!)

Summer’s here !!!

As you see it outside summer is finally here and it brings some sweet gifts worth it. I'm not sure sweet but hot movies are definitely in the hand luggage. So forget all those who tell you:" its nice outside, go and play" well I tell them screw you, and start waiting in line for the summer blockbusters. Of course without seeing them I hope I won't be disappointed, so go for it, let the popcorn pop and start spilling the coke cause its Showtime!!

Here you have a few that I believe are worth watching, they are on my radar for quite a while, so enjoy!

Let there be sun!!!

Real steel, trailer!!!

Normally I’m a fan of real power, real muscles and blood. It’s man against man or not at all. But I must say that this looks quite interesting. I was always a fan of those robot wars on TV. Where people had home made robots fighting against each other and you had the ring robots who finished off the ones left: Mathilda and the Sergeant or something. This was like the modern coliseum, well they were amazing. Now put all this together with Hugh Jackman in the middle, makes me wonna watch this movie ASAP.

I just hope that this isn’t just a fusion between transformers and Rocky, cause this will just be a bad movie. The trailer looks amazing, I guess we will just need to wait and see.

Review: Drive Angry

director: Patrick Lussier

release date: 25 February 2011

genre: action fantasy and taste of a thriller

casting: Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard and William Fichtner

memorable quote:

The Accountant: Wouldn't wanna be you when Satan finds out!
Milton: What's he gonna do, not let me back in?

&

The Accountant: I need you boys to stand down. Captain, you know what this badge means, right? Federal Bureau of get the FUCK out of my way!

What? A father which daughter got killed and his granddaughter kidnapped escapes hell, to save the only good thing that came of him and bring the man responsible to justice, in this life and in the next.

Yes?

The story was interesting, a bit too dark for my senses but it worked. I'm not sure about the title tough, a bit nothing to do I think. The only good thing were the effects, even without 3D they were nice. The other thing that caught my attention was the accountant, fichtner is always playing the same suit wearing special undercover weird agent, but this is who he is, I think those roles suit him in the best way. His cold personality is perfect for the accountant from hell, probably a Jew J.

No?

I didn't watch this movie in 3D, this is because I just can't stand those stupid heavy psyho looking glasses and frankly I'm not sure all this 3D crap is needed in a movie. Suddenly everything flies your way, axes cars even limbs. Nicolas and piper, she is in place for obvious reasons, eye candy! Throw in a muscle car and a big gun and you already have a specific range of viewers at the stands. She and Nicolas didn't deliver half of what they should, I'm just not seeing cage as a total action freak, and he is more the shy action hero type.

Well…
The movie wasn't good in my eyes, batta boom and eye candy are nice but the story needs to fit this combination. I wouldn't watch it again, so if you haven't just don't. Because of all the above I grade this one...

Pirates of the Caribbean: On stranger tides, last trailer before the big welcome!!!

Since in about two weeks the new Pirates movie is coming out we should be prepared as much as possible. I think this video gives as the most possible information without actually watching the movie. From what I see here it’s going to be a bumpy ride, and I’m really excited about this one.

Captain Jack Sparrow is on top of his game, this looks so amazing I can’t wait to watch this on the big screen. I guess we will have to wait and see!

review: Faster

director: George Tillman Jr.

release date: 24 November 2010

genre: action

casting: Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton and Maggie Grace

memorable quote:

Evangelist: [from trailer] Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?
Driver: I can't.
[a gunshot is heard]

What?

After finishing his sentence, an ex-convict goes after the once who set him up and killed his brother. If this is not enough a hit man and an almost retired detective are trying to take him down before he finishes his masterpiece. Vengeance will be swift!

Yes?

The idea is not new, an ex con that wants some vengeance is even an old story. The only thing that makes this movie a bit better than his fore comers is the "cool" factor that we got here. In our generation, maybe the fault of MTV, who knows, it’s not enough to kill somebody you need to do it with a shiny car, shiny gun or knife. This is what this movie brings us; it shows us that vengeance is blessed and that it's ok to take justice in your hands. If you ask me this is exactly what should be. I loved the characters and personalities giving to the head figures. The ambitious hit man gets married, to cop gets retired and the ex-con which nothing will stop, the three together with their stories make one fun movie to watch. Thornton and the rock gave a beautiful performance here. This isn't just a stupid action movie.

No?
I said a lot of good stuff; we still have some bad once. First of all I'm not sure with the title, just didn't exactly says it. Secondly we have other characters in the movie that are just there so we have credits at the end of the movie, the wife, the partner, just shouldn't be there. I think that's it. Maybe it was a bit predictable but hey it was good enough.

Well…
The good thing of this movie is the entertainment factor that makes this movie fun to watch, there was a lot of it here. If you want a nice action movie with a nice car you should watch it ,you won't regret it. Because of all the above I grade this one...
