Coming up this week: The Double

I want to try from now on to put every week the upcoming movies from this specific week. Of course I haven’t watched them yet considering they aren’t in the movies, but I will try to catch up as fast as possible. So the newbie for this week is the Double. Coming out on Thursday December 1st 2011 Even though I talked about this movie in September now it actually comes out so, hopefully its as good as the trailer looks.

Storyline (IMDB)
Story kicks off with the mysterious murder of a senator bearing the marks of a Soviet assassin, who was long thought to be dead. To hunt down the killer, a retired CIA operative, who spent his career going toe-to-toe with his Soviet nemesis, is teamed with a young FBI agent.

Here you got the trailer once again...

Hope to see you there! Enjoy!

Review: Contagion

Director: Steven Soderbergh

Stars: Matt Damon, Kate Winslet and Jude Law

Release Date:
9 September 2011

Genres:
Drama | Sci-Fi | Thriller

Memorable quote:
Alan Krumwiede: It's a bad day to be a rhesus monkey.

What?

Let’s imagine that someone gets the flu, he has all the regular symptoms, meaning he has a fever, headache, running nose and joint pain. Then you go to a doctor and you get a shot or some pills, you lie in your bed and you get all better. But, what happens if some chicken has sex with a pig , so you get some crazy sophisticated super bacteria which then starts to infect people and all this leads to hysteria. People will walk with masks, won’t touch anything and wash their hands ten times, a day, and after a while everything will calm down because we found a cure. At least this is what we are used to, now imagine that this super bacteria, is so strong that it kills a person just by touching him, and that there is no cure, what would you do. Well this movie brings you exactly that scenario . The regular all day plague that just is fucked up on steroids!

Yes?

As I said it before, I liked this movie, because the evil side here is something that actually exists. Not some crazy psycho killer or alien. Its some bacteria that decided to show his teeth. The truth factor or reality factor is so amazing that you could actually start to imagine yourself undergoing the same thing, considering it’s so close. They just showed us how our whole society can collapse since we just can’t control this disease, even though we believe that we are fully protected against such a catastrophe.

Another great thing here is the medical explanation to everything. Everything was explained in such a way that the viewer actually believes what they all say, it sounds convincing and true. They showed and explained us the structure of the bacteria, contagion factors and other difficult terminology that has to do with our problem, which again gives a lot of credibility to this problem.

Jude law and Matt Damon gave a good believable performance. The other actors kind of faded in the background.

I also loved the fact that this movie has claws, not everything stays pink, and the good guys don’t always win. You are infected you die end of story. This counts also for small children, nobody is safe be prepared!

No?

Of course this movie brings us the usual disaster kind pictures. Including, the President talks to the people, a family stuck in traffic who is trying to escape, shots of garbage on the streets and people who just kill other people to steel or to survive. Sadly those moments bring us nothing new and those are the boring parts in the movie.

Well…

Overall I liked it, it scared the shit out of me, on the way out of the movie I didn’t want to touch nobody and anything, when I came home I washed my hands. The reality is that this could happen and this makes this movie in my eyes really interesting to watch. Because of all the above I grade this…

the ultimate show: The Wire

Creator: David Simon

Stars: Dominic West, John Doman and Deirdre Lovejoy

Release Date: 2 June 2002 and going on for 5 seasons!

Normally this isn’t the place to give some feedback on something I’ve seen on TV, but since this thing is so amazing I have decided that this is the best forum possible.

What?
The show brings us the city of Baltimore in her glory days, on one side we have the drug world and on the other side we have the law enforcements. And in the middle we have all the other characters that make this series so special. School children, Dock workers or simply a newspaper staff, all those are forming the basic to this spectacle. It gives us different angles on the drug world and through the eyes of different spectators and influencers.

Yes?
At the beginning I didn’t believe in this show, I wasn’t hooked I could say, but all this changed once I started watching it. You just can’t stop till the episode ends and the next till you get to the end of the season, and in my case till the end of the series. I must say I’m jealous of all those people who have still everything to watch since it’s that good and probably I will watch it again.

The beauty is in the characters each one of them is perfectly written and executed. The actors chosen for the job were casted as if they were born for those parts.

The story is so different every time and still the same, drugs, money and power from again different angles. Everyone wants the same; the question is just how you get there. You steal it, you kill someone or you bribe someone, all these are just a small step till you get to the cause.

If we compare this to another cop show the big difference would be that instead that we have every episode a different case, felony or story, here everything is one huge story and one huge puzzle wherein everything has his place and time.

The last thing I will say here even though I could continue her is that the writers of the show were not afraid of just killing a huge character in the middle of an episode or season, which I believe makes a show to something more serious, if you have the balls to just do something drastic, you are good enough for this business.

No?
The only thing I got to say here is that unfortunately there are only 5 seasons, that’s it.

Well…
Watch it, I don’t care if you like cops or if you are afraid of some blood, if you like TV this is a must for you to watch.

I just want to thank here my good old “hammer friend” for opening my eyes and convincing me to do the right thing and watch this amazing show!

Review: The ides of march

Director: George Clooney

Stars: Paul Giamatti, George Clooney, Ruan Gosling and Philip Seymour Hoffman

Genres: Political Drama

release Date: 13 October 2011

Memorable quote:
Tom Duffy: Get out, now. Or otherwise...
Stephen Meyers: Otherwise, I'll end up like you?
Tom Duffy: Yeah, you end up being a jaded, cynical asshole, just like me.

What?
We find ourselves in the primaries for the presidential election, where Gosling is the head strategies for Clooney, and will do everything it takes to win the election. It shows us the constant struggle the political candidates undergo to come up on the upper hand at the end! Let the games begin!

Yes?
This movie isn't for everyone. All those political games, the whole political world isn't interesting normally but the beauty of this movie is that it becomes interesting. The scandals, the lies and betrayals become essential when they are on the background of political campaigns. To make all this political bullshit interesting, this is the actual strength of the movie. Even though the race isn't for the President in this movie at least, it becomes fascinating to see how everything is connected. The story just works!

Then we have the amazing actors here, sometimes you have great actors and a bad script so it’s just a waste and vice versa. In this case we have both great actors and a great story. Gosling, is an up and coming hero I would say, I see a big future for him. Seymour has the gift that he just can adapt himself to the part he got and acts the crap out of it. Clooney had his good moments here and there and then we have Giamatti who I'm just a big fan of.

No?
The ending is good in one way, even though I wanted something else. A lot of people at the movies didn't believe this actually was the ending, but it was. Let's call it open ended with a possible forecast. A lot of people don't like this.

At some points in the movie there is a lack of flow, nothing is happening, which then you need to work hard to stay focused so you won't miss the actual good parts, let's say you have some run pee moments.

Well...
This was a good movie, I liked it and you can even watch it at the movies. Definitely not for everyone, if you aren't interested at all in politics this won't be for you, if you only want explosions it won't be for you either. I liked it! Because of all the above I grade this...

Review: Crazy, stupid, love

Directors: Glenn Ficarra, John Requa

Stars: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore

Genres: Comedy | Drama | Romance

Release Date: 15 September 2011

Memorable quote:

Jacob: The skin under your eyes is starting to look like Hugh Hefner's ball sack.
&
Hannah: Will you take off your shirt... fuck! Seriously? It's like you're Photoshopped!

What?

The life of Weaver was falling apart the moment he understood his wife is going to leave him. Already ready to throw everything away, Jacob Palmer scrapes him up from the bar floor and teaches him the slinkiness which is needed to score with young girls and just show him he shouldn’t be at the bottom of life. Let the games begin!

Yes?
Again one of those movies where you believe you won’t see anything new and you have seen it all, until unexpected things happen and you just fall in love with the characters, story and comedy.

Carrel brings us comedy as only he can, together with the amazing character of Gosling, they just work together in an amazing way.

This movie is funny and sad at the same time. It shows you that “love” doesn’t come as easy as all the other romantic comedies show it. Every character has his f*cked up little mind, with issues that can only exist in reality, which again makes this fun and good to watch.

The ending also brings you some great spin where you just sit and love how everything plays out.

No?
Frankly not much to say here loved most of the things that I saw.

Right found one, I know it’s a romantic comedy but for once give us something that doesn’t end in an happy ending for everyone, guys wake up life can suck balls most of the time for different people so wake up.

Well…
Liked this movie, again not enough to see at the movies but certainly enough for home, brings some weird funny sadness to your place. Watch it and enjoy. Because of all the above I grade this…

Review: Friends with benefits

Director: Will Gluck

Stars: Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake And Woody Harrelson

Release Date: 22 July 2011

Genres: Comedy and some Romance

Memorable quote:
Jamie: "You're emotionally unavailable?"
Dylan: "Oh, yeah."
Jamie: "I'm emotionally damaged!"

What?
Dylan is hired by Jamie to become the head of something at a certain paper. Those details aren’t important; the important part is the “benefit part”. Yeah I’m sure you have heard of this so called tem friends with benefits and this movie here refers to the exact thing you heard of. Let’s think of sex as tennis, and they want to play it between friends. The problem is that not like in the real life in a movie complications jealousy have their place and things start to get awkward and you get the whole thing.

Yes?
I really didn’t expect anything to good from this movie, but to my nice surprise this wasn’t the case. The movie has some good comedy, nice touches of drama and a really good flow. You don’t get bored and you stay interested the whole time.

A bigger surprise to me was Timberlake, he comes off to me as a sucky medium actor, but here he actually made me believe his part. Kunis was also quite good in the role, even though it doesn’t matter, she is smoking.

It is quite as expected the story finished but it doesn’t just comes off as a stupid Hollywood story, it gives the viewer something worth watching. And I don’t mean all the nudity all the time.

Another great personality in this movie is Woody Harrelson, I just a big fan of him, brings a nice touch and added comedy to this.

No?
Sorry, but I really didn’t like all the nudity, if you decide it’s a teen comedy make sure that’s that.
Another problem is the fact that until the middle of the movie you have a serious rise in the entertainment curve but when we get to the peak in the middle from there on you have a serious decrease in interest and fun. The beginning was good the ending was less.

Well…
All in all a mediocre good movie, it had some good and fun stuff but the great start made the ending look really bad. So you can watch it , you won’t regret it, but don’t get your expectations too high.

BTW I was invited to this movie on my birthday by Fam. King, so thanks for that, you made my day!

Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, the Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot...

I know you now from where this quote is, and maybe you even think, yeah we know every fifth of November the facebook status of some people says the same. But you see I just don’t care, V for Vendetta is one of my favorite movies and I think it’s my sacred duty to make sure that everyone has scene this movie, or at least heard of it. So enjoy those small clips that I put on, and there is a big possibility that I’m going to watch this movie tonight.

Of course if you want to see the whole movie, you can always come to me and I will let you my copy. Then I’m going to make you watch it and then I cannot promise you a safe passage home.

Creedy: Die! Die! Why won't you die?... Why won't you die?
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

The Divide, Trailer!

Recently we had a lot of interesting end of the world movies, in which zombies take over the world, the weather attacks us ( day after tomorrow) and then we had another apocalypse thing in 2012, which for the record could still happen, you know we aren’t too late. (Rumors are circulating that George Lucas a real believer in doomsday has spaceship prepared for the “if” scenario, that’s a serious rumor!) So it didn’t surprise me that a movie came out in which follows the survivors of a nuclear holocaust in the States, I’m not sure who attacked but let’s say Iran, so we can say:” We told you so”. The trailer looks brilliant and scary, the actors seem to be chosen well for their part and it really got me thinking with whom I would want to be locked up in a nuclear bunker, just choose wisely. Enjoy!

I know what you think, won’t happen to me, I live in a country which will never be attacked and even if I have loyal friends and family who will not cut me in to pieces for the last sip of water on earth, but just take it in to consideration. But as always be prepared; don’t say later on I didn’t warn you!
