Review: the mechanic

director: Simon West

release date: 27 January 2011

genre: action (thats it actually)

casting: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Tony Goldwyn and Donald Sutherland

memorable quote:
Dean: I'm going to put a price on your head so big, that when you look in the mirror your reflection's gonna want to shoot you in the face.

What? A mechanic is a proffessional; hit man. This mechanic gets a contract to take out his mentor and friend. After an accident looking murder the son of the mentor comes to the professional for advice and vengeance. The son who has a lot of questions concernig his fathers profession, gets the answers acoompanied with hell of a training. Both go on a bloody ride to discover the tuth abouth the deceased father, friend and menthor.

Yes? The movie was action packed. We get explosions, guns and beautifull action scenes. Sometimes you get in a movie moments where you believe something won't happen because of ethics or classical movie experience, but when they do occur you like it. Here you have some of those. The story was not the most brilliant but enough for what it was meant to be. Jason statham is a known action figure, he delivers the fights and the character needed for a hitman. The son was ok brought a nice touch to the persona. Sutherland considering he was there for a short time, is exactly what you want for an ex hitman, old but still sharp to know when things get bad. Definetly a good flow in the movie, you are always busy to see what comes next.

No? The movie follows a story line that is quite familiar. Somebody kills a father, the son comes to the partner to get even with the bad guy who started this whole sequence. Of course in this one we have a little twist. Which on one side is good on the other side predictable so thats a negative point. We now that Statham is a pro, but all this is so easy, killing all those people with so less effort wants me to become a hitman. The climax of the movie or last action revenge scene was a bit to lazy, when you prepare the whole movie for something you can't finish with something that is less than huge.

well...
All in all we have here a decent action movie, with some slight setbacks as predictability and an ending that should be better. It is a popcorn movie, nothing more or less than you would expect, but nevertheless good entertainment. Dont go to the movie for this please, home is good enough. Because of all the above I grade this one...

grade: 6 out of 10
